In 1900. Father Joseph Denner,a former student if Father Hoehn, came to spend Christmas vacation at Starkenberg. While walking through the woods to the grotto, Father Hoehn mentioned to Father Denner that he would like to get donations for this purpose. Three days later, a leter was received from Joseph Heuberger of Westphalia, Kansas, saying that he had attended many pilgrimages at Starkenberg and wanted to buy new stations for the woods, to replace the very simple ones. Father Hoehn and Mr. Heuberger went to St. Louis, shortly after the new year, 1901 to purchase the new stations. The new images were purchased at B. Herder. The artist, A. T. Kaletta of St. Louis, made them. In 1979, the parishes of St. Martin of Starkenberg and St. Joseph of Rhineland were combined to form the Church of the Risen Savior. Mary Heuberger, born Aug. 11, 1865, Harper, Iowa, daughter of Joseph Heuberger and Susanna Gross, died Oct.3, 1942 at Garnett, Anderson County, Kansas. She married George Feverborn on Oct. 22, 1895 at St. Teresa Church, Westphalia, Ks. Wendel Thomas Heuberger, born Dec. 29, 1885, Westphalia, Kansas, the son of Joseph P. Heuberger and Anna Ludwig died in Muscatine, Iowa, April 29, 1968. Buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Muscatine, Iowa. He married Elizabeth Alice Hahnbaum on October 11, 1910 in Muscatine. T. Heuberger Born 1876 Died Nov. 3, 1878 Age 1 year, 11 months, 25 days Buried Baden Cemetery, Lafayette Twp., Keokuk Co., Iowa ∼Westphalia news paper Nov 10, 1910: " Joseph Highberger was born in Baden, Germany May 12, 1842 and died at his home 1/2 mile south of town Oct 28, 1910. age 68y 5m 16d. He had been sick around two weeks. In 1855 the family emigrated from Germany to Harper Co., Iowa where he spenct his early manhood. In 1864 he married Susanna Gross. To them 6 children were born four surviving Mrs Highberger died and in 1872 he married Anna Ludwig. to them fourteen children were born 11 of whom survive. In 1882 he emigrated to Westphalia, which was then a new struggling hamlet. He bought some land and in the early days he and his brother Vincent did a very large hay and grain business and always prospered. Later he devoted his whole time to farming and stock raising, and at the time of his death was one of the largest owners of real estate in the county. He did much for the up-building of Westphalia and in matters of religion was a great help in building up St. Teresa''s church in which there was no more worthy communicant. His funeral was held at St. Teresa's at 9 am Monday, interment at St Teresa Cemetery. He leaves a wife, 15 children, many grandchildren and a brother in oregon, brother Jacob in Iowa one here and many relatives. A son Nicholas is named of Kansas City also.
