Miller, 82, died of congestive heart failure Saturday, April 8, 2000, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. He was born Feb. 5, 1918, in Lennox. He grew up in rural Lennox and attended country schools. As a youngster, he spoke Low German, and like many children, was none too excited about leaving home to stay with strangers at school. He graduated from Lennox High School in 1937. He married LaVerne Grayson Feb. 25, 1939, in Lennox. The couple made their home on farms near Ellis and Garretson before settling on a farm south of Lennox in 1954. The family farm was busy, but Miller's patience in all things served as stress relief for the family. Miller worked as the sexton of the Lennox cemetery, as a carpenter and as an assistant rural mail carrier in the area. He also worked at the Zip Feed Mill and Farm Gas. He was a member of the Lennox Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and deacon. He also served on the Lennox Cemetery Association Board. In 1971, Miller opened his farm home to children of the area who were afflicted with disabilities. The Lennox Day Care for the Handicapped eventually moved from the farm to Main Street in Lennox. In addition to his wife and daughter, survivors include another daughter, Joan Bleeker of Sioux Falls; a son, Vern of Houston; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
