Description	:	Waterloo Daily Courier Feb 14, 1947~ Joseph Thornton McNeal, 70, died Friday at 7 am of a heart ailment in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Theodore Vining, 1335 Lafayette St, with whom he had made his home for the past five years. A resident here 40 years, McNeal retired five years ago as engineer of the Commercial Building. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Mt Auburn, Iowa. Born on Sept 3, 1876, at Garrison, Ia, he was the son of James and Emma McNeal. He married Jane Starr in 1898 at Cabool, Mo. She died Dec 03, 1920.... He remarried on Feb 5, 1922 to Jane Stire at Waterloo. Surviving in addition to the widow are five children by the first marriage, including a son, James, La Porte City, Ia and four daughters, Mrs. Ivan Jones of Flanders, SD; Mrs. George Wyman, 248 Sullivan Ave; Mrs. Vining of 1335 Lafayette; and Mrs. Ernest Johnson of Coleman, SD; a stepson Gilbert at home; a daughter by the second marriage, Mrs. Howard Carpenter of 626 1/2 Sycamore St; two brothers, Arl and Ray both of Vinton, Ia; three sisters, Mrs. Cecil Snyder, Vinton; Mrs. Margaret Utter, Brandon, Ia and Mary Brickner living in Illinois; 13 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He was proceeded in death by two sons, two brothers and five sisters. The body was taken to Kearns Garden Chapel.
