Sukup, 85, a longtime resident of the Creighton area, were conducted Saturday morning, June 24 at St. Ludger Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul E. Schneider officiating. Burial was in St. Ludger Cemetery. Pallbearers, nephews of the deceased, were Edward L. Wagner, Leonard Wagner, Herbert Wagner, Ivan Wagner, Paul Wagner and George L. Sukup. Burial was in St. Ludger Cemetery. Pallbearers, nephews of the deceased, were Edward L. Wagner, Leonard Wagner, Herbert Wagner, Ivan Wagner, Paul Wagner and George L. Sukup. Mr. Sukup died June 21 at Lundberg Memorial Hospital after being stricken at his home earlier in the day. He had enjoyed good health most of his life until last winter, when he spent sometime in the hospital. Joseph Wenzel Sukup, son of the late Wenzel and Barbara Sukup, was born June 8, 1882 at Walmut. At an early age he was baptized in the Catholic Church and remained faithful all his life. He received his elementary education in Dist. 26, the Sukup school, northwest of Creighton. On Jan. 24, 1913 he was united in marriage to Lucy Frances Wagner at St. Ludger Church. Six children were born to them. In February 1926 the family moved from 10 miles southwest of Verdigre to a farm three miles southwest of Creighton, where their son, Philip, and family now reside. In 1956 they retired and moved into town. Mr. Sukup was preceded in death by his wife, March 22, 1962; his parents; one brother, Andrew; four sisters, Mrs. Jim (Anna) Kolar; Mrs. Ed (Therese) Wagner; Marie Sukup and a twin sister, who died in infancy. Surviving are four sons, Leonard M.; Paul M., Bernard G., all of Verdigre and Philip J. of Creighton and two daughters, Mrs. Leo (Gertrude) Moser of Plainview and Mrs. Marvin (Alice) Closter of Yukon, Okla; 26 grandchildren and three great grandchildren and one brother, Frank Sukup of Creighton. ...The Creighton News 29 June 1967
