Mr. McClelland has for the past 25 years been one of the best known of Fullerton's business men.... In Memoriam - Joseph Wright McClelland, the youngest child of Thomas and Esther Wilson McClelland, was born in Evansville, Indiana, on February 20, 1849. Of his father's family, consisting of five sons and three daughters, but two remain on Time's shore. At the age of nine years his family removed to Livingston county, Illinois and in 1874 he moved to Pontiac, the county seat. He attended school at Normal, Illinois, taught in the public schools of that state. Mr McClelland was united in marriage to Miss Anna M. Brower, Nov. 1876. To this union were born five children, three dying in a single week in December 1884. The widow and two children survive, Mr. Clarence J. McClelland, the efficient deputy postmaster of this city who is married and resides near the parental home, and Miss Anna, a graduate of Bellvue College and one of the teachers in the high school of Fullerton. Mr. McClelland came to Fullerton in April 1882, was admitted to the bar the same year, and from the beginning took an active part in the interests of the city and county. The prominent part he has taken will be recognized at once by the number of offices of responsibility in which he has served, as County Clerk, County Judge two terms, County Attorney, Mayor of the city two terms, and the most responsible and the one for which he was eminently fitted was the 20 years of service, on the Board of Education. He believed in education and to the closing day of life he studied its highest interests. He was one of the original members of the chautauqua management and its President for two years, and when he passed away was serving successfully his third year as Postmaster of Fullerton. He was a prominent and honored member of the Masonic Fraternity, having joined in early manhood in Pontiac,Ill., and affiliated with Fullerton in 1906. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias in this city.....
