McClelland, was born at Pontiac, Livingstone county, Illinois, December 21, 1877. After suffering from a severe attack of malignant diphtheria, which lasted five days, he died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, Dec. 20th, at the home of his parents in the western part of the village. At the age of three he manifested a deep interest in the many books given him by relatives and friends, and rapidly learned to read and comprehend them. He seemed to take the greatest pleasure in teaching his little brother, and always displayed toward him a more than brotherly interest and affection. Young as he was, little Horace had a keen sense of honor, and had been taught by his parents to value the truth for the truths' sake. From the birth of his little brother, Milo M. he at all times showed the most remarkable care and watchfulness over him, as well as his little baby sister, both of whom followed him so shortly to the silent chamber where each care and sorrow is forgotten, and where each soul finds undisturbed repose. Milo Martin, second son of Mr. and Mrs. McClelland, was born under the same roof as his brother Horace, on November 12, 1879, and died on December 24, 1884, of the same disease. Mary, the youngest child, was born Aug 27, 1883, and died a few hours succeeding the death of her brother Milo. To the sorrowing parents there is a happy consolation in the thought that all times they treated their darling ones with the utmost kindness, and tried in every way to fill their little lives with sunshine.
