Description	:	Born in Gündlingen Baden Germany. After the death of his wife Theresia Binz in 1852 Joseph moved to America in 1853 with son Maximilian, aged 15 years. Joseph Zipfel had made three applications for the permission to emigrate from Baden, the first in 1833 (GLA No. 151285), the second in 1837 (GLA No. 151284), and finally the third in 1853. He left Gündlingen on 10 Oct 1853. Joseph and son Max arrived at NY harbor on 11 Jan 1854 on the Ship "Catharine & Cumbria ", departure Antwerp, Belgium. Max is listed on the ship manifest... On the same ship travelled a related Binz family with 6 children which was definitely from Gündlingen and whose application was filed with the same date. Joseph's two daughters Theresia and Rosa followed in 1857. They travelled to America with the family of their aunt Elizabeth Zipfel, married name Herz (Joseph's sister, married to Fridolin Herz, surname later americanized to Heart). Joseph Zipfel is the progenitor of Zipfel families in Defiance County, Ohio.
