Patty, 76, died suddenly of a heart attack about 8:30 last evening as she was being taken in the Huffman ambulance from her home here to the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bohnenkamp in Sioux City. Her death occurred near Ute. Mrs. Patty, who had not been in good health for some time, became ill Monday night. She had considered entering the St. Anthony hospital, but decided to go to Sioux City because the Bohnenkamp's son, Robert, and one of his friends had been badly burned in an explosion of a kerosene stove last Saturday while Mrs. Bohnenkamp and son, James, were in Carroll for a brief visit with Mrs. Patty. Mrs. Patty felt fairly well when she started for Sioux City. She left here about 7 o'clock, accompanied by Miss Loretta Conroy, registered nurse. They were near Ute when Mrs. Patty complained of feeling worse, but by the time they had reached the town, she had passed away. Funeral rites are to be at the Huffman Funeral home at 2:30 Friday afternoon. The Eastern Star service will be given. Burial will be in the family lot in the Carroll cemetery. The body is resting at the funeral home until the time of the services. Mrs. Patty was the widow of Dr. Louis G. Patty, pioneer physician here. She was the last member of the family of Ben W. and Amanda Jane Coffield, who were among the early settlers of Iowa. Mrs. Patty was born Josephine Ann Coffield April 24, 1869, at Jerusalem, Ohio. The following year her parents brought their family to Iowa. As the train came only as far as Scranton, they continued their trip to Dedham by wagon. They settled in the community known as the Malloy Grove between Coon Rapids and Dedham. After Mrs Patty had completed her high school course, she attended Beaver College at Beaver, PA. Her marriage to Dr. Patty took place Nov. 5, 1895, in Audubon county. Dr. and Mrs. Patty established their home in Fonda, where they lived about three years before coming to Carroll. Mrs. Patty had lived here continuously during the ensuing 47 years. Dr. Patty passed away in 1927. Mrs Patty's only surviver is her daughter, Mrs Bohnenkamp (Maude). Another daughter, Mildred Louise, died in infancy. Mrs Bohnenkamp is now at the Patty home, 526 North Court street, having arrived early this morning.
