Read More	Additional information provided by cannaladi Additional information provided by Rich Robinson Josephine Burr Snyder was born Jan. 5, 1879, a daughter of George and Hannah Louise Richard Burr, on a farm on the west edge of Linn Grove. She attended the public school in Linn Grove. When she was about 15 years of age, the family moved to Sioux Rapids where she attended the public schools. Later she attended the Chicago Conservatory of Music and studied piano under Dr. Florenzo Ziegfield. On Nov. 10, 1900, she was united in marriage with Asa Barton Snyder, a well known "Land Man" throughout northwest Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota. To this union was born three children. The Snyders were always interested in people, and their home was always open to everyone, from entire baseball teams and the world famous Frank Gotch to a Bishop of the Methodist Church. Mrs. Snyder was the hostess for the organizing meeting of the present Womens Study Club and a charter member of that group. She was also a long time member of the Buena Vista Chapter No. 309 Order of the Eastern Star. When she was 18 years of age, she became a member of the Sioux Rapids Methodist Church where she had served long and faithfully. She had been looking forward to May, 1972, when she was to have "celebrated" her diamond jubilee in the church. In 1952 she was presented a lifetime membership in the Womens Society of Christian Service. Mrs. Snyder had made her home at the Methodist Manor in Storm I,ake since 1967. Here too, she enjoyed her many frequent visitors as well as the many new friends she made there. Mrs. Snyder had just returned to Storm Lake from Council Bluffs, where she had spent the holidays with her family, as has been her yearly custom. Her 93rd birthday was also celebrated with her family On Jan. 6, 1972, she entered the Buena Vista County Memorial Hospital where she passed into death about 9:00 a.m. Jan. 8, 1972, at the age of 93 years and three days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Edgar Barton Snyder, and a brother Roy R. Burr. Mourning her passing are two daughters, Mrs. Joyce Ash of Des Moines; Naomi, Mrs. Dwight Boyer of Council Bluffs; one brother Clay Burr of Spokane, Wash., one cousin, Doris Brown of Superior, Wis., 5 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a number of other relatives and friends.
