Description	:	One of the community's oldest citizens and long time resident of Knox county, Mrs. Josephine Mott, died early Wednesday morning at her home in Verdigre, following an illness of nearly a month. The final summons was answered at 6:50 on March 11, 1942. Mrs. Mott has been in frail health for the past three years and during this time she had been quite ill frequently, but each time she recovered sufficiently to sit up and get about her home. Read More	One of the community's oldest citizens and long time resident of Knox county, Mrs. Josephine Mott, died early Wednesday morning at her home in Verdigre, following an illness of nearly a month. The final summons was answered at 6:50 on March 11, 1942. Mrs. Mott has been in frail health for the past three years and during this time she had been quite ill frequently, but each time she recovered sufficiently to sit up and get about her home. The cause of her death was old age and complications. A native of Bohemia, Josephine Weaver came to America at the age of 13 years with her sister and brother-in-law. She was united in marriage to George F. Mott in Iowa on February 9, 1876 at Boonesboro, Iowa. For five years the couple made their home at Pocahantas, Iowa. They came to Knox county in 1881, settling near Walnut. Mrs. Mott was truly a pioneer settler of Knox county. She was one of the first settlers to come to the Walnut community. Besides a dutiful wife, a caring mother, Mrs. Mott was a charitable woman,doing acts of kindness for all her neighbors in those early days. In true pioneer spirit, she helped sick neighbors. She knew hard times. Indians were a troublesome lot, but they never brought harm to her or her family, because she always fed them, when they came to her door. In 1925, they retired into Verdigre. Her husband died in April 1929. Four daughters preceded their mother in death. Surviving are ten children, five sons and five daughters; Frank and William of Spencer, George, James A. and Peter of Walnut; Mrs. M.C. Hansen of Fenton, Iowa, Mrs. Josephine Groeling of Orchard, Mrs. W.E. Bramon of Mitchell, S.D., Miss Julia Mott of Verdigre and Mrs. Sam Walton of Boone, Iowa. All the children were at the bedside of their mother before she passed away. Caring for their mother during her last illness were her daughters, Miss Julia and Mrs. Josephine Groeling. Brief services were held at the home of the deceased at 9:45 and at St. Wenceslaus church at 10. Rev. Charles J. Oborny conducted the requiem mass. Burial was in the Grimpton cemetery near Venus, beside the grave of her husband. ...The Verdigre Eagle 12 March 1942
