Description	:	Josiah Chase was born at Weare, NH in 1838. He moved with his parents (Nathan and Anna Gove Chase) in 1853 to Muscatine, Iowa and in 1854 to Springwater, Iowa. He married in 1862 Hannah Earle in Iowa City, IA. To this union were born 12 children, 5 died in childhood. 4 sons and 3 daughters remain to mourn the loss of a kind father: William E, George M, Lydia C Emery, Frank W, Charles M, Alice M Smith, and Cora E Chase. He moved with his parents (Nathan and Anna Gove Chase) in 1853 to Muscatine, Iowa and in 1854 to Springwater, Iowa. He married in 1862 Hannah Earle in Iowa City, IA. To this union were born 12 children, 5 died in childhood. 4 sons and 3 daughters remain to mourn the loss of a kind father: William E, George M, Lydia C Emery, Frank W, Charles M, Alice M Smith, and Cora E Chase. In 1870 with his father, brothers, and sisters, he homesteaded in Clay County, Iowa. Beeng a public spirited man, he was prominent in political, religious, and educational work. He was elected to the office of superintendent of schools which he held for 6 consecutive years. In 1873 he moved with his wife and family to Dixon County, Nebraska, which has been his home ever since. His wife died at Emerson, NE June 24, 1902. For a number of years he had suffered from Catarrha troubles which terminated his life at the home of his son Frank W on April 30, 1911. Every thing that medical skill and kind friends could do was done. Through all his suffering (which was intense) he was always patient and considerate of those who cared for him. In his last moments he said "Don't weep for me. I am ready to go. I am at peace with all men." He was a life long member of the Friends Church. The remains were laid to rest by those of his wife.
