One of six children, Joyce was the oldest of a family which includes brother Russ Schubert and sisters Kathy Husinga, Julie Schubert, Mary Anderson and Elizabeth Schubert. She is survived by all of her siblings. She is preceded in death by both parents. Joyce attended the veritable "one-room schoolhouse" across the road from the farm, and from those humble beginnings went on to attend Iowa State Teachers college in Cedar Falls, IA, where she obtained a BA degree in 1964, and later obtained an MA in Teaching from Emopria State University in 1978. She worked as a third through seventh grade teacher, as well as teaching GED courses over the span of a 38 year career. She worked in Cedar Rapids, IA, Westmont, IL, and the Turner and Shawnee Mission school districts, with the bulk of her time being spent in the SMSD across five schools: Antioch, East Antioch, West Antioch, Blue Jacket/Flint, and Bon Jour schools, retiring in 2004. Joyce met her husband, Allen Nicol Bolte (Al) while working during the summer of 1961 at the United Methodist Camp at Lake Okoboji, IA. Al's family had a small cabin in the campground, but more importantly, he also had a convertible black 1959 Corvette with silver inserts that she couldn't resist. They soon fell in love, and married on February 18, 1962, in Britt, IA, during a blizzard. She was an Army wife, living in both Aberdeen, MD, and Huntsville, AL, while Al served his country in the military. Joyce is survived by Al, two children, Kelly N. Botteron of St. Louis, MO, with children Lauren and husband Chris Schipper of New Canaan CT, Sarah and Haley; and a son, Sean A. Bolte of Kansas City, MO, with his wife Steffanie of Waterloo, IA, and their children Addison and Lyssa, and Sean's daughter Fiona Bleu of Pleasant Hill, MO. They also housed two German exchange students, Irene Bidlingmyer of Stuttgart and Meinert Klemm of Neumunster, whom they have always considered as part of their extended family. Joyce was a longtime volunteer in the Johnson County Catch-A-Ride organization, as well as preparing food for the Argentine Food Kitchen and active in church organizations at both Asbury United Methodist in Prairie Village, KS, and St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Lenexa, KS. Her most favored passion was spending time playing and interacting with her six granddaughters. Joyce was an avid movie-goer, and liked to stay in shape. Joyce never met a stranger that she didn't have smiling in under a minute with her smile, laugh and irreverent sense of humor. Joyce will be sorely missed for her love, compassion, friendship, desire for correct grammar (of which I'm sure I've committed egregious errors!!), beautiful blue eyes, hugs, kisses, baking TONS of chocolate chip cookies, and gentle and caring nature she demonstrated towards everyone. Visitation will be held at St. Paul's Methodist Church, 7740 Lackman Road, Lenexa, KS 66217 on Sunday, Oct. 30, from 5-7 p.m. Funeral will be Monday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's, with burial at Shawnee Mission Memorial Gardens, 23215 W. 75th Street, Shawnee, KS 66227 immediately following the ceremony.
