Judy K. Austinson 1923 - 2008 Mass for a Christian burial will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church, 900 "H" Street, Bakersfield, CA on Friday, December 12, 2008, at 9:00 a.m., for Judy (Julia) K. Austinson who passed away in Bakersfield, CA on December 7, 2008. Judy was born on April 16, 1923 to Joseph and Margaret (Klien) Gumeringer in Pierce County, Esmond, North Dakota. She was reared on a farm (ranch) in that state along with six brothers and two sisters. She graduated from Esmond High School, Esmond, North Dakota, and obtained a two year standard elementary teaching credential from Minot State Teachers College, Minot, North Dakota and later furthered and finished her teaching credential at Fresno State College, Fresno, CA. She married Paul Austinson on July 3, 1948 in Esmond, North Dakota. They moved to Bakersfield, CA in November 1952, where Paul was employed by Arco Oil Company. Judy taught school for ten years in North Dakota prior to coming to Bakersfield to teach in the Bakersfield City School District from 1953 to 1985 when she retired. Her teaching career spanned over fifty years, teaching full-time, tutoring and substitute teaching. She always had many loving and endearing stories to tell about her work with little children. She made a place in her heart for every child she taught. Judy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Paul Austinson on Nov. 25, 1996; her sister, Betty; and brother, Bert. She is survived by her five brothers, Bill (Cathy), Ray (Luella), Ed (Mary Ellen), Edmond (Leah) and Frank Gumeringer; her sister, Delores Hager and husband, Edmond, all residing in North Dakota. Pallbearers will be Brandon Cobb, David Gray, Paul Gray, Joe Moore, Rodd Munoz and Dan Smith. Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of this truly extraordinary wife, teacher and friend. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 11, from 5-7 p.m., with Rosary from 7-8 p.m., at St. Francis Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Vincent De Paul Homeless Park Shelter, c/o St. Francis Church, 900 "H" Street, Bakersfield, CA 93304.
