She was born Oct. 24, 1874, at Dudley, near Eddyville, the daughter of William P. and Malinda (Roberts) Van Fossan. A resident of Wapello Co., Iowa all her life, she had lived in Ottumwa since 1943. She married Omer W. Johnston on Oct. 9, 1892, in Wapello County. He died in 1920. Surviving are three sons, William E. of blakesburg and Alta Galey of Ottumwa Route 4, two daughters, Mary Goode of Blakesburg and Alta Galey of Ottumwa; 33 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great grandchildren. The service will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Chapel Burial will be in Brooks Cemetery west of Ottumwa. Grandsons will be pallbearers.
