Read More	Death of Mrs. Julia Staley A Long Time Resident Dies Suddenly from Heart Affection—Funeral Tomorrow at 2 O’clock At 11:45 o’clock this morning, Mrs. Julia P. Staley, wife of Lorin A. Staley, Esq., died suddenly at the family residence on Grand avenue between 4th and 5th streets. The suddenness of her death has cast a gloom over this community where she had resided so long and the announcement of her death was a shock to nearly everybody as few knew that she was ill. The immediate cause of her death was an affection of the pericardium, the covering of the heart. Yesterday morning the services of a physician were called in for a few days, but nothing serious was thought of her condition. She was taken with a severe attack of pleurisy, and while she was quite ill, the family did not think that she was in a dangerous condition. At an early hour this morning, Mrs. Staley revived greatly, but later on became suddenly worse, death resulting at the time mentioned above. The deceased was married to Lorin A. Staley in this city February 5, 1885. A daughter, Metta, and her husband survive her. Of her own family, a brother and her mother reside at Oshkosh, Wisconsin. By a former marriage, Mrs. Staley leaves one child, residing in her old home at Oshkosh. The deceased was a very bright woman and in the early days of the settlement of the city was one of the bright crowd of young people residing here, who formed the young social set of that day. She was n interesting and bright conversationalist and one with whom her friends found much to enjoy. Of later years, she has gone little into society, but has retained a large circle of warm friends and admirers. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon from the family residence on Grand avenue. Services will be conducted at St. Matthew’s Episcopal church at 2 p.m. by Rev. C.W.G. Lyon, rector. The pall bearers will doubtless be members of the bar. The family of the deceased, especially the husband, is receiving the warm sympathy of many old friends of the family. Undertaker Gourley will have charge of the obsequies. Grand Junction, Colorado, Daily Sentinel, 28 January 1902 Funeral of Mrs. Staley The funeral of Mrs. Julia P. Staley occurred this afternoon from the Episcopal church at 2 o’clock. The church was filled with friends of the deceased and there was sorrow and sympathy depicted upon every face. All through the church were heard sounds of sobbing, as Rev. Lyon spoke of the life and character of the deceased, for Mrs. Staley was beloved by a large circle of friends. The casket which contained the remains was almost covered with flowers, among the offerings being one from the city council and one from the Columbine band. The members of the Mesa county bar attended the services as a body, as did also the Columbine band, the latter organization going as a mark of respect to Miss Metta Staley, daughter of the deceased, who is a member of the band. The pall bearers were composed of Mayor Sampliner and Councilmen Barton, Lee, Mantey, Shores and Hutchinson. The funeral was one of the largest ever held in the city and was attended by many of the pioneer settlers of the city, who have known the deceased for years.
