Aug. 14, 2022 --------------------------------------------------------- ETTA LAYTON WALLING DIES AT OMAHA This community was saddened Monday to learn of the death of one of its former residents, Etta Layton Walling, who failed to recover from a mastoid operation. Altho she has been away from here for the past fifteen years, she retained many warm friendships, and was a frequent visitor here at the home of her parents. Julia Etta Walling, only daughter of Frank and Hattie Layton, was born in Silver Creek, Nebraska on August 31, 1893 and departed this life on February 22, 1932 at Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 38 years, five months and 22 days. Her early life was spent in Silver Creek. She graduated from the local high school with the class of 1913. During her early girlhood she joined, the Congregational church and remained a member throughout her life. For the past fifteen years she has made her home at Omaha, where she also made many staunch and faithful friends. For the past several years she has been a constant sufferer but has borne her suffering with courage, patience and cheerfulness. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, C. A. Walling of Omaha, her son Harold of Silver Creek, her father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Layton of Silver Creek, two brothers, Charles Layton of Con Can, Texas and C. J. Layton of Silver Creek, a number of aunts uncles, nephews, a niece, other relatives and many friends. Her own mother died in her infancy, and one brother preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, a short service being held at the Layton home at two o'clock, followed by a service at the Congregational Church, both services being conducted by Rev. P. B. Carne of Rosalie, an old friend of the family. Burial was at the Silver Creek Cemetery. From the Silver Creek Sand, Silver Creek, Nebraska, Friday, February 26th, 1932
