Flaherty – age 93, of Pocahontas, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the Pocahontas Manor in Pocahontas, Iowa. Julia Rose Stejskal was born on October 20, 1923, in Pocahontas, Iowa. She was the daughter of Frank and Rose (Hotovec) Stejskal. Judy attended and graduated from Ware High School. She went on to attend the American Institute of Business school in Des Moines. On September 15, 1947, Judy married Cleo Flaherty at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Pocahontas. The couple settled on a farm near Pocahontas. In 1972, they moved into Pocahontas. Judy did secretarial work at the Pocahontas County Extension office and then for the Pocahontas Democrat for 20 years. She also worked as a receptionist at the Powers Funeral Home for many years. Cleo passed away in 1988 and Judy continued to make her home in Pocahontas. Judy was a member of the Resurrection Catholic Church, Ladies Society, C.D. of A., Ladies Missionary Society, AmVets Auxiliary and the Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing and quilting. Survivors include her children, Robert Flaherty of Peterson and Rosann Flaherty of Johnston; a granddaughter, Bobbie Jo (Joe) Julius of Sibley; five great-grandchildren, Jayden, Kayne, Jorryn, Jacey and Kyler and a sister, Marie Pattee of Pocahontas. Judy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cleo; brothers, Frank and Joe Stejskal and sisters, Eleanor Polich and Anne Harrold.
