Description	:	Julius W. (Jule) Kast, 92 of Fordyce, died Saturday, April 1, 2006 at the Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton. Funeral services were April 4 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Menominee with Rev. Michael Schmitz officiating. Burial was in the St. Boniface Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandchildren. Julius was born March 17, 1914 to George and Catherine (Goeden) Kast on the Kast homestead south of Menominee. He was born premature as a result of a runaway horse drawn wagon on what was to be a Sunday outing for his parents. Being a strong-willed infant, Julius survived in a homemade incubator of as shoe-box bed on a wood stove reservoir. Julius attended St. Boniface Catholic School in Menominee. He was the oldest of nine children and worked hard on the family farm. On April 16, 1940, he married the love of his life, his next-door neighbor, Josephine Schieffer at St. Boniface Catholic Church. They moved-two miles from his birthplace to the present family farm. Julius along with his wife, farmed there for nearly 60 years until they retired. In October of 2000, Julius moved to Avera Sister James Care Center after suffering health problems. His wife, Josephine joined him in December of 2000. Together they, were active residents and were known to greet and make new residents feel at home. Julius was affectionately nicknamed "ornery" for his continuous teasing and joking with the staff and residents. Julius was an active member of the Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Forrester, and the National Farm Organization. He loved to farm, spend time with his family and go fishing with his grand and great grandchildren. He will always be remembered for how he liked to tease and joke with them and his numerous nieces and nephews. Thankful for sharing his life are his wife, Josephine, Yankton; sons: Lawrence (Shirley) Kast and Ronald (Diane) Kast, all of Fordyce; daughters: Charlene Johnson, Lavista, and Jolene (Frank) Kralicek, Yankton; 10 grandchildren: Susan (Randy) Uken, Lisa (Mike) List, Christy (Brett) Carda, Gerard (Kim) Kast, Sharon; (John) Kraft, Sarah (Gerald) Koza, Amy (Jerry) Gustad, Frank (Melissa) Kralicek, Jr., Karl Kast, and Juliet Kralicek; brothers: Anthony Kast, Crofton and Clarence (Shirley) Kast, Coeur D'Alene, ID; sisters: Leona Sudbeck, Bertha, MN and Olivia (Allen); Kohles, St. Charles, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Herbert Kast, George Kast, and Allred Kast, Sister, Mildred Wiebelhaus and a son-in-law, Bruce Johnson.
