Julius, son of Julius and Helena "Anna" Koeler Zimmer, was born in Silesia (state), Prussia(later known as Germany). He received his education and military training in Prussia. Julius, of Koppendorf, Prussia, left Hamburg, Germany for Kearney, Nebraska on board the ship California on 10 April 1884 and arrived in New York, USA on 24 April 1884. He registered his "intent for citizenship" in Kearney on 1 October 1884. Julius filed application #15709 on the W2 of the NE4 and W2 of the SE4 of Section 32, Township N13, Range 17W of Elk Creek Township, Custer County on February 5, 1885. He received his naturalization from a Kearney court on August 23, 1890 followed by the Final Certificate #9487 on his homestead on December 16, 1890. His father, mother, brothers, and sisters arrived in New York on 4 June 1887 aboard the Ems and made their home with Julius on the homestead. This homestead was where he made his home until his death on May 30. Surviving are his wife, Marie; three sons, Joseph of Kearney and Gregor and Clement of Mason City; eight daughters, Sister M. Meinrada, Gallup, N. M., Sister M. Vitalis, Lincoln, Mrs. Helen Paitz, Pleasanton, Mrs. Barbara Hussion, Denver, Colo., Mrs. Gertrude Stittle, Ravenna, Mrs. Louis Miller, Elm Creek, Mrs. Margaret Daake, Riverdale, and Regina at home; 27 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
