June was born December 10, 1932 in Scribner, NE to Irvin and Margaret (Marreel) Spath. She attended school in Scribner, NE until the age of 10 and then moved with her family to Seattle, WA. They returned to Nebraska and came to Fremont in 1946. June was a proud graduate of Fremont High School, Class of 1950. June married Lowell F. Mattson on August 20, 1950 in Fremont. June was born December 10, 1932 in Scribner, NE to Irvin and Margaret (Marreel) Spath. She attended school in Scribner, NE until the age of 10 and then moved with her family to Seattle, WA. They returned to Nebraska and came to Fremont in 1946. June was a proud graduate of Fremont High School, Class of 1950. June married Lowell F. Mattson on August 20, 1950 in Fremont. June never met a stranger. She rarely turned down a chance to help others. Her 27 years of service in the Dodge County Treasurer's Office concluded with eight years as Treasurer, retiring in 1999. She was a dedicated member and leader of First Congregational Church, U.C.C. of Fremont, where she helped with Sunday School and had been chair of the Women's Fellowship, a loyal and enthusiastic member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary in Fremont and was a Past President and member of the Ritual Team, outstanding volunteer at the Fremont Area Medical Center, Cub Scout den mother, Brownie leader, 4-H parent and served in other community and volunteer roles too numerous to mention. Her proudest titles were loving wife to Lowell, proud mother of 6 children, doting grandmother of 17 grandchildren and "young great grandmother" of 17 beautiful babies. She is survived by husband, Lowell; 2 daughters, Patricia & husband, Dennis Jepsen of Schleswig, Iowa and Karen & husband, Scott Berner of Fremont; 4 sons, Michael & wife, Marilouise Mattson of Fayetteville, N.Y., David & wife, Rita Mattson of Valrico, FL, Kevin & wife, Cindy Mattson of Poway, CA and Charles & wife, Maria Mattson of Clayton, N.C.; sister, Janet Cason of Loveland, CO; 17 grandchildren & 17 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers-in-law, Gary Cason and Wayne Mattson. Funeral service 10:30 AM, Thursday, at First Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Fremont. The Rev. David Paul will officiate. Visitation Wednesday 4 PM to 8 PM with the family receiving friends from 6 PM to 8 PM at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation at church on Thursday 1 hr prior to service. Interment at the First Congregational Church Niche, at a later date. Memorials may be given to the church.
