Mrs. Skalberg was born June 1, 1896, in Montgomery County to Ole and Jenny (Johnson) Olson. She married John A. Skalberg October 8, 1913 in Shenandoah, Iowa by Rev. John Quist. John Skalberg was 28 years old when he married June Olson at the age of 17. The lived in the Essex area all of their lives. Mrs. Skalberg was reared in rural Essex and had attended Goldenrod Country School. She was a member of the Fremont Covenant Church. Her residence at time of death was 810 Illinois, Essex, Iowa.  Survivors include her son Willard Skalberg of Essex; seven grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren. The Red Oak Express, Red Oak, Iowa, Friday, July 8, 1988, page 2 JUNE VICTORIA (OLSON) SKALBERG June Victoria (Olson) Skalberg was born June 1, 1896, in Montgomery County, Iowa, the daughter of Ole and Jennie (Johnson) Olson. She grew up in Page County, near Essex, where she attended Golden Country School. She was baptized April 22, 1916, at the family home and was confirmed May 11, 1913, in the Fremont Covenant Church. She was united in marriage to John A. Skalberg, October 8, 1913, and following their marriage, they lived in the Essex area. To this union, two children, Marcella and Willard, were born. June was a longtime member of the Fremont Covenant Church and Fremont Covenant Women and was an active member of the Keenagers Club in Essex, Iowa. Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, Paul Olson, a daughter Marcella and her husband John in 1965. Survivors include one son, Willard Skalberg and wife Muriel of Essex; seven grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. June died Tuesday, July 5, 1968, at the Montgomery County Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. She was 92 years of age. Funeral services were held at the Fremont Covenant Church near Essex Friday afternoon, July 8, 1988. The Rev. Richard Gustafson officiated. Special music was provided by vocalist Donald and Lois Erickson singing a duet and organist Mrs. Delbert Anderson. Casket bearers were Glen Skalberg, John Skalberg, Robert Skalberg, Larry Skalberg, Jerry Skalberg, and Leslie Skalberg, all grandsons of the deceased. Interment was in the Essex Cemetery, Essex, Iowa. Caring for flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Delaine Lundgren. Presiding at the memory register was Mrs. Wayne Almquist. Ushers were Alan Erickson and Dwayne Lundgren.
