Jurgen Dirks Janssen was born to Iddelf & Alste (Jurgens) Janssen on June 6, 1813 at Esens, Wittmund, Niedersachsen, Ostfriesland, Germany. Jurgen Dirks Janssen was married to Margaret Gertjen (Gretchen) Weyen (Gronewold)on 4 April 1839 at Esens, Wittmond, Niedersachsen, Ostfriesland, Germany. To this union eight children were born in Ostfriesland, Germany. Preceded in death was his wife, commonly known as Gretchen - Margaret Gertjen(Gretchen)Weyen (Gronewold) Janssen. Gretchen passed away in 1861 in Germany. Also preceded in death were one daughter and two infant son's. All laid to rest in Germany. In 1869 Jurgen Dirks Janssen and his surviving family, emigrated to the USA on a sail ship, first locating at Minonk, Woodford County, Illinois. His family in 1869 consisted of two sons, John Behrns Janssen & Harm Dirks Janssen and three daughters, Alste, Antje and Tomke Janssen. Jurgen Dirks Janssen's, family from Illinois, later relocated to Nebraska = Part of his family & himself settled on a farm near Kramer, in Lancaster County, Nebraska. While other family members located to a farm near Crete, Saline County, Nebraska. One family relocated to a farm near Blue Hill in Webster County, Nebraska and several family members to farms in Adams County, Nebraska. Survivors - Jurgen Dirks Janssen-Johnson was survived by five children and their spouses - Daughter, Alste (Janssen-Johnson) and husband Fokko Duis of near Kramer, Lancaster County, Nebr, son John Behrns Janssen & Mary (Meinke) Janssen-Johnson of near Crete, Saline County, Nebraska, daughter, Antje (Janssen-Johnson) & Reemt Janssen-Johnson, near Blue Hill, Webster County, Nebraska, son Harm Dirks Janssen-Johnson & Elizabeth (Donn) Janssen-Johnson, of Adams County, Nebraska and Tomka (Janssen-Johnson) & August Gerloff of Adams County, Nebraska and many grandchildren. Last name originally was Janssen, during the turn of the century around 1900, the surname of Janssen was changed to Johnson to Americanize the name.
