On Monday night, April 27, 1914, at 12 o'clock at her home in Bethel township, Wakonda, S. Dak., where she has resided for about 34 years, occurred the death of Mrs. Amos Nelson, one of the earliest settlers of this portion of the country. For the last year Mrs. Nelson had been ailing and the last three weeks was confined to her bed most of the time and death came last Monday night and she passed peacefully to the world beyond. Mrs. Nelson's maiden name was Karn Hanson. She was born in Denmark in 1844 thus being 69 years, 9 months 10 days of age at the time of her death. At the age of 25 she came to Clinton, Iowa, where she was united in marriage to Amos Nelson. In 1880 they came to Clay county and settled upon a claim and here they have lived ever since. Eight children were born to them, six of whom are still living; Mary, Nels, Carrie, Charles, Henry, Emma. She has always been a devoted wife and loving mother and a friend to all who knew her. She was a devout christian and a devout member of the Baptist Church. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock,services were conducted by Rev. Wold of Wakonda who spoke words of sympathy and comfort to the bereaved ones. The remains were laid to rest in the Bethel cemetery. To the sorrowing husband and children the sympathy of the community is extended in their bereavement.
