Amos Nelson was born in Denmark, October 2, 1843. He came to America in 1868 and settled at Clinton, Ia. In 1869 he was united in marriage to Karn Hanson. In 1880 they came to Clay county and settled on their homestead in Bethel township, where the resided until death claimed them. Eight children were born into their home, six of whom are left to mourn the departure of their father, the mother having died in 1914. The sons and daughters are: Mrs. Olaf Larson, Nels Nelson, Mrs. J.N. Westre, Chas. Nelson, Henry Nelson, and Mrs. Peter Leikvold. Besides the children there are a host of other relatives and friends who will miss the departed one. This takes from us another of the pioneers. Mr. Nelson was 79 years, 8 months and 24 days at the time of his death. A ripe old age, full of years with many cares. Interment was made in Lodi Bethel Cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wm. F. Robbins, pastor of the Baptist church at Wakonda, Wednesday. JUNE 26, 1923 We wish to thank our friends and neighbors for their assistance and many kindnesses during the illness and death of our father. We also wish to thank the choir of the Wakonda Baptist church for their most helpful part in the funeral services.---The sons and daughters of Amos Nelson ---------------------------------
