The body was removed to the Comer Funeral Home where it lay in state until 2 p.m. Monday when services were held at the Baptist Church with Rev. J. T. Parker in charge. Pallbearers were R. E. Greenwood, J. A. Jenkins, J. A. Huntsman, Gus Tongrtrom, Harry Dunlap, and Vance Ward. I. W. Castor sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "In the Garden accompanied by Mrs. H. E. Greenwood at the piano. Kate Jones was born near Winterset, Madison County, Iowa, March 16, 1866, the youngest child of John and Sally Jones. Having lost her mother at an early age, she spent a number of years in the home of a sister. November 5, 1882 she was united in marriage to Henry Clinton Hicks of Fairbury where they resided for 10 years. After a four year period at Keith County, Nebraska, they moved to Emerson where she lived for over 54 years in the same home. She was the mother of four children: Vernon, Ray, Wesley Hicks and Pearle Wilkins. The eldest son, Vernon and her husband have preceded her in death. She was a member of the Baptist Church, the Woman's Relief Corp., the Eastern Star. Her life was filled with her family duties and many activities of the community until two years ago when she suffered a stroke. From this illness she partially recovered and was able to help with work and get out occasionally to visit friends. After a fall the first of the week her condition grew steadily worse and she passed away quietly at 1:25 p.m on Saturday afternoon. Besides her three children, she leaves to mourn her two granddaughters, four great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Burial was in the Emerson Cemetery.
