Her death coming so suddenly, was a shock to the family and friends, as she had always been strong and seemingly in good health, doing her household duties without complaint. She had been busy in her garden up to supper time but shortly after eating she became ill and passed away. Katie Ortmeier was born at Westphalen, Germany, July 12, 1864, coming to this country with her parents at the age of twenty one, they resided at West Point, Nebr. At the age of twenty four she was married to Fred Guenther, at St. Mary's Church in West Point, Nebr. October 17, 1888. They made their home on a farm near West Point, living there until twenty one years ago, when they moved to the farm near Crofton, and where she died. To this happy union nine sons were born, Ferdinand, Casper, Conrad, Henry, Charley, Joe, Anton, Herman, and Fritz Jr., all of whom live near Crofton. Funeral services were held Thursday morning, at 9:30 o'clock at the St. Rose Church, Rev Father Bosheck conducting, and internment was made in the Catholic cemetery at Crofton. The funeral was the largest ever held at Crofton, A great number of relatives and friends coming from Creighton and West Point to pay last tribute to their friend. Mrs. Guenther was a devoted wife and mother, always looking after the comfort and welfare of her loved ones, and was a deligent worker in the Mothers society, of which she was a member.
