FRUENDT Mrs. Henry Fruendt, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Wiedemeier, on Friday, Jan. 2. Mrs. Fruendt had been a patient sufferer for the past five or six years, having had a paralytic stroke. At the death of her husband, who cared for her in her invalidism, she was taken to the home of her daughter where she was cared for by the kindness of her daughter and grandchildren. She suffered almost unbearable pains but always wore a smile that was the mark of her Christian spirit. Catherine Fruendt, nee Diehn, was born in Germany (Mecklenburg), Oct. 10, 1851. In her infancy she received the sacrament of holy baptism and, after a thorough Christian training, she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1866. She was married to Henry Fruendt in 1876 and this marriage was blessed with six children - four sons and two daughters. The family came to this country in 1880 and by honest hard labor and thrift this couple acquired a liberal reward for their efforts. On retiring from the farm Mr. and Mrs. Fruendt made their home in Victor and were soon in the circle of friendship with young and old. In her affliction, many there were who called on her, offered their assistance, and so wove a lasting bond of friendship. Her husband cared for her in loving kindness and when he was suddenly taken from her three years ago she was mercifully cared for in her daughter's home. She leaves to mourn her loss three sons, Gustav of Guthrie, Okla, Henry and Herman Fruendt, one son, John, having passed away last March; two daughters, Mrs. Minnie Smith and Mrs. Fred Wiedemeier; 28 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She also leaves a host of other relatives and close friends. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon at one o'clock at the house, Rev. C. G. Treskow of Marengo spoke a few words of comfort to the mourners at the home and Mrs. Walter Stoker and Mrs. Cloyd Lyman sang "Abide With Me." Services were held at the St. James Lutheran church in Victor at 3 o'clock, with Rev. C. G. Treskow having charge of the English service and Rev. August Mueller speaking a few words in German. Mrs. Stoker and Mrs. Lyman sang another duet at the church "One Sweetly Solomn Thought." The church was filled to capacity with those who came to pay their last respects to a beloved friend. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
