Description	:	Katherine, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Bissen, was born near Earling on May 7, 1888. She grew up in the Earling vicinity and attended the schools in that area. On May 26, 1908 she was married to Herman Esser. Eleven children were born to this union. Two daughters, Viola and Virge Ann, died in infancy. her husband died of a heart attack February 24, 1953. She grew up in the Earling vicinity and attended the schools in that area. On May 26, 1908 she was married to Herman Esser. Eleven children were born to this union. Two daughters, Viola and Virge Ann, died in infancy. her husband died of a heart attack February 24, 1953. The surviving children are seven sons; Alex and Marcus of Earling, Sylvan and Herman of Omaha, Ivo of Panama, Tony of Dunlap and Cletus of North English. Two daughters, Mrs Marcella (Aloy) Kaufman of Chicago, Illinois and Mrs Modesta (Robert) Craeger of Dexter. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs Anton Frank and Mrs Hubert Jacoby; five brothers, The Rev. Peter A. Bissen, Paul Bissen of Dunlap, A. Bissen, Paul Bissen of Dunlap, Nick and John Bissen of Earling and Joseph Bissen of Defiance. Mrs Esser had been active in both church and civic until the final eight weeks of her illness. She passed away October 27, at the Mercy hospital in Council Bluffs after spending seven weeks at the clinic hospital at Dexter. She held office in the parish Altar society and Catholic Daughters of America. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's church in Earling Friday, October 29 with the Rev. Peter A. Bissen, a brother of the deceased, officiating at the requiem high mass. The Rev. Msgr. Michael Schiltz of Panama delivered the sermon. The seven sons of the deceased acted as pallbearers.
