Dirks died at John McDonald hospital in Monticello on Sat morning Sept 14, 1974 after having been confined the past seven years, Katherine Margaret Hanken was born near Center Junction on Dec 20, 1890 the daughter of Gerhard H. and Margaretha Scheer Hanken. She received her early education in Jones county rural schools. Kate married Walter Norris in 1906 and were parents of two children. Mr Norris died in 1909. On June 26, 1912 she married Harm J. Dirks and became parents of two sons. Mrs. Dirks made her home in Scotch Grove township and was a life long member of St John Lutheran church. and active in affairs of the church and the Women's Society of the church. She was a member of Scotch Grove Community club, the Federated Women't club and the Garden club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harm J. Dirks June 29, 1959, two sons, Walter Norris in 1964 and LeRoy Dirks on June 15, 1961, her parents, two sisters and a brother. She is survived by a daughter, Irene,Mrs August Schrader of Monticello and a son George W. Dirks of Cedar Rapids, ten grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Services on Sept 17, at st. John Lutheran church in Monticello with interment of Oakwood cemetery.
