Description	:	Mrs. Katherina Faber Mecke was born in Freisen, Regieremgsbezirk, Trill, Germany, May 28, 1948.She died at her home in Creighton, Wednesday, March 16, 1921 at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 27 days. October 26, 1869, she left Germany with some people from Wisconsin, who were on a visit to Germany. From Wisconsin, she journeyed to West Point, where she was employed for a number of years by a Mr. Baumann. Later, she united in marriage to Wm. Mecke. Read More	Mrs. Katherina Faber Mecke was born in Freisen, Regieremgsbezirk, Trill, Germany, May 28, 1948.She died at her home in Creighton, Wednesday, March 16, 1921 at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 27 days. October 26, 1869, she left Germany with some people from Wisconsin, who were on a visit to Germany. From Wisconsin, she journeyed to West Point, where she was employed for a number of years by a Mr. Baumann. Later, she united in marriage to Wm. Mecke. After their marriage, they moved to Knox County, Nebraska in the spring of 1872. They homesteaded one mile west of Creighton. Seven children were born to them, two dying young. The five living are Henry, Mrs. August Horstmann, Wm. F., Mrs. R. Y. Thompson of Creighton, Mrs. Lena Salmon of Concord. Besides the children she is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Mat Koos of Oklahoma, two sisters and one brother in Germany. The late Mrs. Mecke was a kind and loving mother and a most estimable Christian woman. The number of beautiful floral offerings told of the high esteem in which she was held. Mrs. Mecke's sister from Oklahoma was on her way to attend the funeral, but on account of sickness had to be taken from the train at Omaha and enter a hospital. Her daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Barnett from Chicago was called to her mother's bedside. She is recovering slowly. Mrs. Barnett arrived here Monday morning from Omaha in time to attend the last sad rites of her aunt. The services were held from St. Ludger Catholic church, Monday morning at 9:30 conducted by Rev. Father Windolph. The remains were taken to her last resting place in the Catholic cemetery. ...The Creighton News March 24 1921 ******** The 1900 census shows the Mecke family, with four of their five living children...Henry M.27, William F.-26, Carrie-14 and Helena-11.
