Shimon of Pocahontas and Miss Catherine Reis Married in Varina Tuesday, May 23" "The marriage of Miss Catherine Reis and William Shimon of Pocahontas was solomnized at St. Columbkills's Church last Tuesday morning. At seven o'clock, in the presence of a number of relatives and friends, the happy couple, attended by Miss Margaret Biltner as bridesmaid and Thomas Shimon as best man, were united Father Masterson performing the marriage ceremony. A wedding breakfast was given at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Reis, and the newly wedded couple left in the early afternoon on a wedding trip, the particulars of which were very modestly kept private. The first lap of the journey was made over the Ford route, but when or where they abandoned the Ford for the steel rail is a matter of surmise mostly. It may be the Twin cities north of us or the San Diego beach hotel will receive them. There is a well-founded rumor that William got a number of presents from the Varine boys in the shape of building material, bricks, half bricks, etc. in his suit cases and a generous quantity of old shoe leather. They are expected in Pocahontas where the young groom has as elegant, farm home fitted up for his young bride before July 4th, and tis said that , the Pocahontas band is already practicing up a 'Hot Time in the Old Town' as the first number on the reception program when the traveilors return. Well, William is a very fine young man, and even if he did come and take one of our nicest young ladies Varina is not complaining. Pocahontas, is the winner this time, but we hope she will show a generous reciprocity some day. We have nothing but best wishes and to God speed for the happy couple. May prosperity and happiness crown them to every way is Varine's wish." OBITUARY: "Pocahontas Record democrat", April 30, 1970, Page 7. "Mrs. Kathryn Shimon" "Funeral services were held this morning, (Thursday) at 10:00 o'clock in Sacred Heart Church for Mrs. Kathryn E. Shimon , 76 who died April 27 at Bergan Mercy Hospital, Omaha, Neb. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers were Vincent Reis, Leon Reis, Thomas Wilson, Howard Shimon, Duane Shimon and Bernard Shimon. Mrs. Shimon the former Kathryn Reis, was born Nov. 28, 1893, at Varina, and attended rural school. She was married May 23, 1916, to William F. Shimon of Pocahontas at St. Columbkill's Catholic Church in Varine. They farmed in the area for five years, then moved into Pocahontas where Mr. Shimon was a ...
