Description	:	Katie "Kay" Anna Cara Gustafson, 76, of East Helena-McClellan Creek area, passed away at her home Sunday evening, 8 Feb 1998, after a short illness. Kay was born in Macon, NE, 19 Apr 1921 to Carl and Tena Rohnke. She was raised and educated in Notcatur, KS. As a young girl, Kay moved to California. Read More	Katie "Kay" Anna Cara Gustafson, 76, of East Helena-McClellan Creek area, passed away at her home Sunday evening, 8 Feb 1998, after a short illness. Kay was born in Macon, NE, 19 Apr 1921 to Carl and Tena Rohnke. She was raised and educated in Notcatur, KS. As a young girl, Kay moved to California. She later moved to Seattle, WA, where she met Ray Gustafson, who worked for Boeing Aircraft. Ray and Kay were married on 17 Oct 1942. Later the Gustafsons moved to Ray's family ranch on McClellan Creek to help his folks. They took over management of the ranch in 1946 and still run a small cattle operation at the present time. For many years Kay and Ray worked as musicians playing in clubs throughout the area, entertaining audiences with their music. Kay also enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid hunter and fisher and loved the outdoors. Preceding her in death were her parents: sister: Adeline Martin and Elsie Waits; and brothers Gustav Rohnke, John Rohnke and Albert Rohnke. Surviving are her husband, Ray, brothers and sisters and their spouses: Frank and Rose Rohnke of Scottsbluff, NE; Carl and Kathy Rohnke of Craig, CO; Ben and Deanna Rohnke of Greely, CO; Tena Winner of Colby, KS, Marie and Gerald McChesney of Oberlin, KS; Lillie and Ray Hartford, Alice Bowman, Paul Rohnke and Gladys Russ, all of East Helena. Kay is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Tom and Patti Russ of McClellan Creek. Memorial services will be held at Retz Funeral Home on Thurs, 12 Feb 1998 at 10:30 am. Cremains to be interred at Forestvale Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be sent to Hospice of St Peters. Helena Independent Record, 11 Feb 1998
