Description	:	Katie Poppinga was born on a farm east of Lennox on May 24, 1898, the daughter of Dick and Maggie DeVries. She attended rural school and grew to womanhood there. On Mar. 3, 1920 she was united in marriage to Bert D. Poppinga at Lennox. Following their marriage they farmed east of Lennox until retiring into Lennox in 1963. Mrs. Poppinga has continued to make her home here since that time. She was a memeber of LaValley Presbyterian Church of rural Lennox, and was an active member of the Mission Helpers. She attended rural school and grew to womanhood there. On Mar. 3, 1920 she was united in marriage to Bert D. Poppinga at Lennox. Following their marriage they farmed east of Lennox until retiring into Lennox in 1963. Mrs. Poppinga has continued to make her home here since that time. She was a memeber of LaValley Presbyterian Church of rural Lennox, and was an active member of the Mission Helpers. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband in 1967, one daughter Tillie Delores in 1950, three brothers, two sisters and one half-sister. Following hospitalization of three weeks, Mrs. Poppinga passed away in a Sioux Falls hospital on Mar. 11, 1973. She attained the age of 74 years, nine months and 17 days. Surviving are her son, Norman Poppinga, of Sioux Falls; her daughter, Mrs Harold (Margaret) Harper of Sibley, IA; five grandchildren; one half-sister, Jennie Bruns; and one half-brother, John F. Bruns, both of Lennox.
