Keith was born to Arthur and Gwineth Drake on August 17,1935 he was the second of 13 children and was a father figure to many. He joined the Catholic Church in May of 1957 and he was united in marriage to Esther Caroline Klein on June 29,1957 at Saint Mary's Cathedral in Lincoln, Nebraska. From this union 5 children were born. He was the first in his family to graduate from college and became a professional in the teaching and coaching field. His love of coaching grew from his love of the game of football. Anyone who was close to dad most likely had the pleasure of going through his scrapbook of football days in high school and college, put together by his family. Who would ever forget the phrase, "As Drake, hopped, skipped and jumped into the end zone", but even more unforgettable was the look on his face while you were reading it. No one will ever forget his indescribable laugh, his love of a good practical joke from the "Christmas Goat", to the goodwill attire he so graciously provided for his sisters. But most of all we will miss his stories and reminiscing from family childhood memories, to his hunting stories, which always left you laughing. Dad is a man who loved his family and was the intrical part of our sense of family, which continues to carry over to his grandchildren. He was in his glory when he had his family around and if anyone was missing he would always want to know where they were. He has a special place in his heart for his grandbabies and grandchildren they would always bring a smile to his face. While at home before the initial diagnoses of cancer, you could find the beginning phase of a Drake reunion for July of 2001 on the kitchen counter. Everything was in the plan from horseshoes; dance, to pony rides for the kids. As his cancer went into remission he started this plan again and the reunion for July of 2002 was completed and this time-mailed out, unfortunately his plan is once again incomplete. If you were to look in our dad's billfold front and center would be a picture of "The Cabin", which he very proudly would tell you, his family built. A friend once said that this cabin was a "Labor Of Love", and we can't think of a better phrase. How very fortunate we were to have his cabin, for the cabin has created and will continue to create countless unforgettable memories for all of his children and grandchildren. Every family member helped, from the initial plumbing to the final stages of painting, either physically or minding the home fires. We could go on all day with the stories and special memories that were generated from those trips. The guys were traveling so much the first couple of years that we have one particular story that we would like to share. Greg was on his way up to the cabin and was pulled over by a patrolman for speeding, the officer asked for his license and was reading the name and asked how the cabin was coming along. Greg looked at the officer and asked, "How do you know about the cabin?" The officer replied "I stopped your father last week". We are sure dad was striking up a conversation with the patrolman to try to avoid a ticket, which he did. Dad would do anything to help make things easier for his family; well he has done it once again. While we will miss him endlessly and shed many more tears, somehow the knowledge of dad waiting for us at Heaven's Gate is a comfort Until that time we will remember him as the life of the party, the practical joker, the story teller, the husband, the father, the grandfather, the great-grandfather, the son, the brother and one of the best friends anyone could ask for. Dad part of you will continue to live on through us, and your grandchildren. We will always love you!
