October 21, 1965 - Sioux Rapids Bulletin Press - Services for Kenneth Hollesen, 35, former Sioux Rapids resident, were held Sunday afternoon, Oct. 17, at the First Methodist church in Sioux Rapids with the Rev. Elwood S. Poore officiating. Hollesen died Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the Coply hospital in Aurora, Illinois, following brain surgery several days previous to his death. Military rites were held by the Graeber-Rowe American Legion Post No. 394 with burial in Lone Tree cemetery under the direction of the Henry Funeral home. Casket bearers were George Smith, Dwight Siefken, John Galbraith, Preston Stone, L.J. Dennis and Harry Nichols. Mrs. Elmer Moe was soloist, accompanied by Walter Simonsen at the organ. Kenneth Earl Hollesen was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hollesen. He was born October 15, 1929, at Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Ken was a graduate of the Sioux Rapids high school with the class of 1948. He served with the United States Army during the years 1948 and '49. He reentered the service in 1951, and served two years in the Korean conflict. On June 19, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mary Jeannine Morris of Spencer. In 1956 they moved to Aurora, Illinois, where they resided until the time of his death on October 13, 1965, at the age of 35 years, 11 months and 28 days. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hollesen; two brothers, Dale of Everly, Ia., and Dean of Aurora, Illinois; four sisters: Mrs. Fern Bright of Sioux Rapids, Mrs. Lilah Romine and Mrs. Margery Stone of Aurora, Illinois, and Mrs. Marlene Meister of Laurens; several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by two infant sisters. Ken, as he was fondly referred to by friends and relatives alike, had a remarkable zest for living and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, as his wonderful personality endeared him to all.
