He passed away May 11, 2002 in the Crete Manor at the age of 80 years, 10 months, and 15 days. He was one of six children in the family. Read More	KENNETH KNESS Kenneth M. Kness was born June 26, 1921 in Fairmont to Oliver and Lutie (Maranello) Kness. He passed away May 11, 2002 in the Crete Manor at the age of 80 years, 10 months, and 15 days. He was one of six children in the family. Ken attended high school in Fairmont and later worked as a farm hand for Earl Frazier. He was a WWII veteran, having served in the armed forces for four years in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan. Ken was married to Bonnie Novak on January 16, 1949 in York. To this union two children, Gary and Karen were born. During the first seven years of their marriage, Ken farmed and worked as a substitute rural mail carrier. He later worked as a mechanic, postal clerk and one of the most enjoyable times for him was working with children, driving the Fairmont Public School Bus. Ken also served on the Fairmont School Board. After retiring from the Post Office, he farmed for his father-in-law, Joseph Novak. Ken was multi-talented, even outside of his employment, playing several instruments, and performing with the country band, Ambush for 10 years, and also worked as a professional photographer. He and Bonnie travelled all over the United States , ending up in Yuma, Ariz., where they purchased a home. They celebrated their 50 Wedding Anniversary while living there, and enjoyed the visits of many Nebraska friends. Making friends was easy for Ken as his quick wit endeared him to all he met. Ken and Bonnie returned to Fairmont in April of 2000 do to his struggles with Alzeheimer's. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Lutie Kness; twin infant brothers; and his oldest brother Donald Kness. He is survived by his wife Bonnie Kness; son Gary Kness and wife Debra; daughter, Karen Kness; brothers Dale Kness and wife Germaine; and Wilton Kness and wife Arlene; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, from the Fairmont Community Church with Rev. Betsy Galloway-Carew officiating. Nancy Jo Galusha accompanied the congregational singing of "Blessed Assurance" and "How Great Thou Art" and Karen Kness who sang "My Tribute." Casket bearers were Jerry Frazier, Richard Frazier, Jerry Galusha, Francis Jacobsen, Jim Snodgrass and Charles Swerczek.
