SMITH Kermit Alfred Smith, son of John and Mary Jane Shaffer Smith, was born Aug. 9, 1901 south of Douds and departed this life Saturday, Oct. 28 at his farm home, four miles northeast of Douds at the age of 60. He had suffered a heart condition the past two years but had been in better health recently. On Jan. 18, 1922, he was married to Ruth Nedrow who survives. Smith of Libertyville; one brother, John Smith of Helena, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Robinson of Floris; Mrs. Donna Carson and Mrs. Betty Fellows, both of Washington, D.C.; three granddaughters; three grandsons; daughters-in-law; sons-in-law; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. His parents, a sister, Mrs. Emma Harryman and a granddaughter, Kristina D. Warner preceded him in death. Mr. Smith was a member of the Baptist church and most of his life was spent in farming in the Douds community. For several years he was associated with the Iowa Highway Commission and the United State Coast and Geodetic Survey. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. at the Pedrick Funeral home in Douds with the Rev. Glenn A Fuller and Rev. Kenneth Carr officiating. Interment was in the Zion Lutheran cemetery.
