Description	:	Klaas Krikke was born in October 1886 in the country village of Avereest, located in the mid northeastern part of the Netherlands, the fifth of nine children of Reijer Krikke (32 years old, farmer) and Klaasje Bekendam. He was a brother of Roelof (Ralph) Krikke. His father Reijer Krikke died in March 1908 at the age of 54 years in the textile factory village of Lonneker, located in the eastern part of the Netherlands. He was a brother of Roelof (Ralph) Krikke. His father Reijer Krikke died in March 1908 at the age of 54 years in the textile factory village of Lonneker, located in the eastern part of the Netherlands. His mother Klaasje Bekendam died there too in April 1910 at the age of also 54 years. In 1912 Klaas and his five years younger brother Willem Krikke (Find A Grave Memorial# 170000917) went by boat and train to Edmonton, the capital of the Canadian province Alberta. On September 24, 1913 he bought a quarter (160 acres) of land in the Dutch agrarian hamlet of Neerlandia, located about 60 miles northwest of Edmonton and built a cabin on it. On 1 May 1915 Klaas Krikke's membership of the Christian Reformed Church was transferred from Edmonton to Neerlandia, where he just had helped building a new church of logs, measuring 24 by 30 feet and with a seating capacity of 150 people. On January 22, 1917 he married Janna Oldegbers, who attended in the Netherlands the same school, immigrated in 1911 and was then working in Edmonton. They became the first couple to get married in the log building of the Neerlandia Christian Reformed Church. Klaas built another log house measuring 14 by 22 feet, which was unfortunenately cold in winter and wet in summer when it rained. The following children were born at their homestead in Neerlandia: * Ryer, January 7, 1918; * Johanna, January 20, 1919; * Gladys (Klazina), September 26, 1920; * Lily (Leida), October 8, 1923; * Ralph (Roelof), October 10, 1925; * Albert Jan, January 10, 1929. Klaas Krikke died in April 1964 at the age of 77 years in Neerlandia. His widow Janna died there too in August 1982 at the age of 92 years.
