Description	:	Ralph (Roelof) Krikke was born in October 1925 in the Dutch agrarian hamlet of Neerlandia, located about 60 miles northwest of the city of Edmonton, the capital of the Canadian province Alberta. He was the fifth of six children of Klaas Krikke and Anna Oldegbers, both born in the northeastern part of the Netherlands. When his education in school was completed, he worked on his father's farm. He was the fifth of six children of Klaas Krikke and Anna Oldegbers, both born in the northeastern part of the Netherlands. When his education in school was completed, he worked on his father's farm. He also worked for other farmers in Neerlandia and in Vega, located about 6 miles north of Neerlandia. In 1951 Ralph bought a quarter (160 acres) of land in Vega, leased the quarter next to it, and started farming on his own. On June 17, 1953 Ralph Krikke of Vega married the three years younger Rita Gelderman in Neerlandia, Alberta. Dairy farming became their prime interest though they added beef cattle as time went on. From October 1954 until October 1968 they had in Vega five daughters and, as last, one son. Ralph Krikke died in October 2006 at the age of 81 years, his widow Rita in May 2012 at the age of 83 years in Barrhead.
