Description	:	Ryer Krikke was born in January 1918 in the Dutch agrarian hamlet of Neerlandia, located about 60 miles northwest of the city of Edmonton, the capital of the Canadian province Alberta. He was the first of six children of Klaas Krikke and Anna Oldegbers, both born in the northeastern part of the Netherlands. He was named for his grandfather Reijer Krikke. Read More	Ryer Krikke was born in January 1918 in the Dutch agrarian hamlet of Neerlandia, located about 60 miles northwest of the city of Edmonton, the capital of the Canadian province Alberta. He was the first of six children of Klaas Krikke and Anna Oldegbers, both born in the northeastern part of the Netherlands. He was named for his grandfather Reijer Krikke. Ryer had his schooling in his birthplace Neerlandia, but often had to stay home to help his father crush grain, harness horses, and to do field work, since his father had trouble with astma. Several winters Ryer worked at Pete Visser's radiator shop in Edmonton, until he married on October 30, 1952 the 11 years younger Jurina Elgersma, who was born in Neerlandia too. They started farming on a quarter (160 acres) of land in Neerlandia, which his father had bought, and where they had from November 1954 until July 1968 three sons and two daughters. Ryer Krikke died in July 1985 at the age of 64 years, after suffering from cancer for six months, very probably in Neerlandia, or in hospital at Barrhead. His widow Jurina died in March 2008 at the age of 78 years.
