Description	:	Lamar Merald "Koffee" 86, of German Township, Clark County, Ohio died peacefully Friday morning, June 24, 2011, at his home. He was born February 12, 1925 at the family farm on Shrine Road in German Township, the 5th son (and 6th of 9 children) of Philipp Heinrich and Hazel (Bower) Kaffenbarger. He was a 1943 graduate of Lawrenceville High School. Read More	Lamar Merald "Koffee" 86, of German Township, Clark County, Ohio died peacefully Friday morning, June 24, 2011, at his home. He was born February 12, 1925 at the family farm on Shrine Road in German Township, the 5th son (and 6th of 9 children) of Philipp Heinrich and Hazel (Bower) Kaffenbarger. He was a 1943 graduate of Lawrenceville High School. As a young adult, he farmed his parents' farm, later made field tile at Blackhorse Tile Co., was a highway construction inspector for the State of Ohio, worked for Frigidaire, and then retired from Columbia Gas of Ohio in 1987 with 27 years as a main-line welder and gas Service Technician. He was also the owner of Koffee's Welding and Trenching. In addition, Dad was a trusted and respected German Township Trustee for 43 1/2 years, one of the founding fathers of the German Township Lawrenceville Fire Department and the German Township Police Department. As a longtime member of CF Water (Citizens For Wise Approaches To Environmental Resources), he was instrumental in preventing the expansion of the unsafe Tremont City landfill, to protect citizens and the local aquifers. Also active in his community, Dad coached Boys Little League baseball for 11 years, founded the Clark County Girls summer softball league, was President of the Northwestern Amateur Athletic Association when Ryman field on Shrine Road was founded, as well as for many years was a business sponsor for various boys baseball and girls softball teams. He was also a supporter and buyer at the annual Clark County 4-H livestock auctions for many years. Dad had been a member and also served terms as President of both the North Hampton Lion's Club and the Northwestern Alumni Association. While a longtime bowler at Victory Lanes, and born with the gift for gab, one bowling buddy appropriately gave Koffee another nickname, "Jitter Jaws". He was known for his mischievous antics as a youth; he often spoke of pranks and stunts pulled with friends. In his later years, he still enjoyed hanging out regularly with buddies at his favorite restaurants, simply "jokin around and actin a fool". Dad was a Clark County resident all his life. He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law Connie and J. Kevin Koehler, Sr. of Springfield; 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law: Steven and Peggy (Martin) Kaffenbarger of Springfield, Richard Kaffenbarger of Columbus and Rodney and Darlene (Pamer) Kaffenbarger of German Township; former spouse Donna Haulman Kaffenbarger of North Hampton; former daughter-in-law Jeri (Harrison) Kaffenbarger Finnegan of Marysville; two sisters: Thelma Young of North Hampton and Norma Jean "Jeannie" Hoberty of German Township; one brother and sister-in-law Roger and Lorna (Farrell) Kaffenbarger of German Township; numerous grandchildren: Gwendolyn (David) Freyhof, Martin (Sarah Mullins) Kaffenbarger, John Kevin Koehler, Jr., Katie, Kourtney and Kara Koehler, Allison, Whitney, Kelsey, Cody, Janie and Ethan Kaffenbarger; three great-grandchildren: Caleb, Madeleine and Claire Freyhof; longtime friend and loving companion, Betty Gullett; lifelong friend, Ralph Mitchell; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by both parents; a granddaughter Mary Beth Koehler; four brothers and 7 sisters-in-law: Oren (Opal Storts, Illa Morris, Mary), Lloyd (Esther Grieser), Everett (Helen Murphy, Ellen Kimball), Elden (Margaret Lou "Sue" Recob); one sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn Young (Richard) McGilton; and brother-in-law Robert Young. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Thursday June 30, 2011 at the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Lawrenceville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations go to the German Township Fire and Police departments. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Thursday June 30, 2011 at the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Lawrenceville Cemetery.
