Description	:	Lansford Trapp was a Retired Lieutenant Colonel for the Air Force. He died at the age of 90. He resided in Brookings, South Dakota, and was the son of Minnie Florence (Potts) Trapp and Charles Arthur Trapp. In 1919, as a baby, he moved with his family to Conde, South Dakota. He resided in Brookings, South Dakota, and was the son of Minnie Florence (Potts) Trapp and Charles Arthur Trapp. In 1919, as a baby, he moved with his family to Conde, South Dakota. He grew up on a farm, the oldest of six children. He attended 8 years of Country School, and then graduated from Brentford High School in Brentford, South Dakota, in 1936. In 1939, and the outbreak of World War II. he joined the Army Air Corps. , serving the duration of the war, including the South Pacific. On January 1st, 1944, he married Frances Catherine VanHatten of Randolph, South Dakota. They got married in Aberdeen, South Dakota. When he was discharged from the military in 1945, he attended the South Dakota State College, earning a B.S. Degree in Engineering Physics, then earned an M.S. Degree in Math from Kansas State University. In 1950, they moved to Whittier, California, where he worked for North American Aviation, developing the Nordis Bombsight. In 1951 he was called into the Air Force, for the Korean War. He was assigned to teach Air Force Cadets at U.C.L.A. where he flew the B-26 Bomber. In 1953, he was reassigned to Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama, to write Science Text Books for the Air Force Training. At the end of the Korean War he decided to stay in the Air Force, and was assigned to the Pentagon in Washington D.C. While there, he was the Project Officer for the U-2 High Altitude Spy Plane. In 1959, he was reassigned to the Headquarters of the North American Air Defense Command, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In December of 1963, he was assigned to Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, in support of the Space Program operating out of Cape Canaveral. In May of 1965, he was sent to Vietnam to fly in support of ground troops. After 14 months in Vietnam, he was reassigned back to the Pentagon as a direct adviser to the Secretary of Defense. In June of 1967, he retired from the Air Force, after 26 years and more than 6,000 flying hours as a Senior Navigator and Command Pilot. Him and his wife returned to their roots in South Dakota, where he taught math at the South Dakota State University, finally retiring in 1983. He enjoyed winter vacations in Braunfels, Texas, and playing golf. He was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie and Charles Trapp, a daughter, Shirley Isaak, two brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by: His wife of 65 years, Frances Trapp of Brookings, South Dakota, one daughter, Yvonne Dietterle of Madison, South Dakota, 5 sons, Lanny Trapp of Austin, Texas, Mark Trapp of Boca Raton, Florida, Dick Trapp of Beavercreek, Ohio, Paul Trapp of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Steve Trapp of Phoenix, Arizona, 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Doris Zimmerman of Glide, Oregon.
