Rt. Rev. Msgr. Albeit Manternach officiated at the services with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Larry Robertson died June 19 at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. Lawrence Robertson was born October 8,1912 at Anamosa, the son of James and Ella Grimes Robertson. He received his education in the Anamosa Schools, where he graduated in 1928. He owned and operated a grocery store in Monticello, and was later employed at the Ford Motor Company and the Iowa Liquor Control Commission. Lawrence Robertson and Virginia Schneider were married September 4, 1941. The couple lived briefly in Anamosa before Larry enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1942 until 1946. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 20 years and obtained the rank of Colonel. He also taught Command and General Staff School in Cedar Rapids for 10 years. After he left military duty, he returned to Monticello and purchased the Poplar Heights Supper Club. He sold it in 1951 and in 1952 he started the Culligan Soft Water Service in Monticello, which he operated until retirement in 1978. Larry was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion Post#209, Reserve Army Association of America, and the VFW. He was a former member of the Great Jones County Fair Association,serving as manager for 11 years. He was also a past member of the Rotary Club. Larry is survived by his wife; a son, James Robertson of Bakersfield, CA; a grandson, and a brother, Donald Robertson of Anamosa. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. Casket bearers were Douglas Robertson, Robert Hines, Marty Meeks, Micky Meeks, Monty Meeks, Mitchell Meeks, James Litterer and Stephen McAleer. Goettsch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
