Haukoos had always lived with his mother, Mrs. Margaret Haukoos, and had been an invalid for years. ______________________________________________________________ THE ROLAND RECORD THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 1929 McCALLSBURG NEWS Lars Haukoos passed away Thursday afternoon last week at the Iowa Sanitarium at Nevada, after a lingering illiness with cancer of the stomach and liver. The funeral was held at the Lutheran church here Sunday afternoon in charge of Rev. H. N. Bakke who spoke first in the English language and again in the Norwegian language. Mrs. O. E. Ritland and Miss. Fern Christian sang as duets, "Rock of Ages" and "It's Goodnight Here and Goodmorning There," and the congregation sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul." The pallbearers were Jesse Thompson, Amos Hanson, Thor Hegland, Andy Thompson, Roy Baumgardner and George Shearer. The flowers, which were very beautiful, were cared for by Mrs. E. O. Dillin and her sisters, Irene and Ruby Larson. Burial took place in the cemetery south of town. Lars, son of Ole and Margaret Haukoos, was born on the farm northwest of town, October 25, 1873, and died January 31, 1929, being 55 years, 3 months and 6 days of age. He had lived his entire life in Story county, moving with his parents to town in 1915. Since the death of his father he has been his mother's constant companion and was very kind and good to her. Those left to mourn the loss are the mother, one sister, Mrs. Julia Hauskins of Cedar Rapids, four brothers, Peter of Woden, Oscar of Forest City, Martin and Carl of this place.
