Etter, who met a tragic death on Tuesday forenoon, February 10, 1931, at Russell, Iowa, when their auto was struck by the fast mail train No. 7 at the railroad crossing near the elevator, were held at the Bethel church on Thursday afternoon, February 12, and the edifice was filled to overflowing with sorrowing relatives and friends. Rev. D. C. Boatwright, of Des Moines, conducted the services, speaking words of comfort to the living, and brought a fitting message. The remains of Mr. and Mrs. Etter were laid to rest side by side in the Bethel cemetery. William Rufus Etter, the fourth child of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Etter, was born in Illinois on September 11, 1867, and at the time of his demise was 63 years, 5 months and 29 days old. Laura Alvira Wells, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wells, was born in Harrison coutny, Missouri, on January 21,1878, and when she met death her age was 53 years and 20 days. The marriage of this couple occured on August 29, 1897. Three children came to brighten their home, Mrs. Ruby Dyer, of Chariton; Arthur Etter, of Russell; and a son who died in infancy. Besides the son and daughter, five grandchildren are left to mourn the demise of their grandparents. Mr. Etter is also survived by one brother, David Etter, of Ottumwa, and a sister, Mrs. Dolly Swanson, of Des Moines. His parents, one brother and three sisters also preceded him in death. Mrs. Etter also leaves in bereavement two brothers and four sisters, John Wells, of Bozeman, Montana; George Wells, of Bethany, Missouri; Mrs. Ellen Noble and Mrs. Rosa Morton, of Chariton; and Mrs. Susie Long, of near Russell. Her father and mother preceded her in death. They also leave a number of other relatives and a large circle of friends to mourn their sudden passing. Mr. and Mrs. Etter were converted in the year 1916 and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost at a Pentecostal meeting held at the Charlie Hollingshead home, and lived faithful christian lives until the Lord saw fit to call them to the home He has gone to prepare for those who love and serve him. They were good citizens and highly regarded by all. The sympathy of the community will be extended to the sorrowing ones.
