Haltom and Sarah Catherine Bennett OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Tuesday, June 23, 1981 CROOKS Laura Belle Crooks, daughter of William A. and Sarah Bennett Haltom, was born March 9, 1901 and passed away June 14, 1981 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She had been in failing health for several months and had been tenderly cared for by her family. On July 24, 1916, she was married to Jasper Crooks. Two children came to bless this home, Leota Hukill and Leta Nicholson, both of rural Lucas. Laura accepted Christ as her Saviour. She was a kind and loving mother, a good friend and neighbor - always ready to do kind deeds. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband on August 4, 1954, her parents, and one brother and two sisters. Besides the two daughters, survivors include one son-in-law, Marvin Nicholson, three grandchildren, Marion and wife Eva; Marilyn and husband Gene Marsh; and Cindy Jo Nicholson, all of near Lucas, Iowa. There are three great-grandchildren. Laura also leaves one sister, Eulah Haltom of Chariton, several nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 17, 1981 at the Norwood United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Norwood Cemetery. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
