Jay, 86, of Blakesburg Route 2 died Saturday at 9:15 p.m. at the Ottumwa Hospital following a week's illness. She was born Oct. 20, 1876, in Pittsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Mort Lanam, and had resided in Wapello County for 42 years. She was first married to Seth R. Brown, who preceded her in death. Her marriage to Bert T. Jay took place in Oskaloosa on May 19, 1916 [sic]. He died March 26, 1961. One son also preceded her in death. She was the last of her family of eight children. Survivors include a son, Walter Jay of Ottumwa; a stepson, O. Hunter Jay of Blakesburg Route 2; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Veronda Freshour and Mrs. Icye Jackson, both of Ottumwa; six grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The service will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel. The Rev. James W. Morris, pastor of the Christiansburg Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dean Larson, Harold Long, Tullio Della Vedova, Clay Chapman, Harold Blanchard and Henry Shoemaker.
