She had been in poor health for some time, and the end was not unexpected. She was a grand old lady, and took a great interest in local events, although not getting out a great deal. She often visited our office when she was able to be about and we enjoyed visiting with her. Mrs. Porter had made her home in Cherokee for the past 30 years and lived in the country northwest of town for many years before that time, having come to this vicinity when a young lady. She was born August 6, 1850(sic) at Sheridan, Iowa, She was a member of the Christian church. She was the widow of Uncle Daniel Porter, a fine gentleman, if we ever knew one. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Doty and Mrs. Letha McCants, both of Cherokee; a niece, Mrs. Leona Alberty, of Springfield, Mo., and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon in the Methodist church with Rev. Fred Clark officiating. Interment will be in the Cherokee cemetery.
