Read More	SOURCE: Oxford Junction Mirror, Thursday, October 27, 1927 INFANTILE PARALYSIS IS CAUSE OF DEATH OF GIRL The following article was handed us telling of the death of Miss Laura Petersen, whose father, Ferd Petersen, a brother of Louie, Tom, John and Martin Petersen, all of this vicinity, was well known by many in Oxford Junction. "Miss Laura Petersen, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Petersen, of Monticello, died suddenly of infantile paralysis at St. Louis, Missouri, at midnight Tuesday night of last week. A telegram was received by her parents early Tuesday morning advising them of her serious illness and requesting them to come to St. Louis at once. They left by automobile Tuesday noon, in order to catch the first train for St. Louis, but did not reach that city until Wednesday morning after the death of their daughter. There was no case of infantile paralysis in the hospital, and it is not known where she contracted the disease. "Miss Petersen was born at Center Junction, July 21, 1907. She was therefore in her 21st year. She graduated from Center Junction high school at the age of 16 years, and removed with her parents to Monticello in 1923. Miss Petersen had ambitions to become a registered nurse, but on account of her age was unable to enter a nurse training school. She did the next best thing and sought employment at the Iowa City hospital where she might become acquainted with the routine of such an institution. A year ago last July she went to St. Louis and enrolled as a student in the nurses training school of St. Mary's hospital in that city. In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters and two brothers, viz: Mrs. Henry Boner of Monticello; Mrs. Frederick Von Sprecken, Martin Petersen and Herman Petersen of Center Junction. Mr. and Mrs. Petersen returned to Monticello Thursday morning with their daughter's body. Private funeral services were held Friday afternoon. Burial was made at Oakwood cemetery in charge of Rev. Henry Adix, of St. Mathew's Lutheran Church."
