He had been in town that morning, and although in declining health, for two years, expressed himself as feeling better than he had for a long time. Because of this he seem much encouraged and in fine spirits and talked to several of his friends and acquaintances. He was taken suddenly ill in the afternoon and passed away at 5:30. Martin Nicholas Petersen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Petersen was born December 13, 1895, at Onslow, Iowa and departed this life March 9, 1933, at the age of 37 years, 2 months and 23 days. When a young boy he united with the German Lutheran church at Olin, Iowa. He was a veteran of the World War, and served a year and 18 days. Eleven months of this was spent overseas. Needless to say he was a good soldier, as his honorable discharge testifies. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and also of the American Legion. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Anna C., three children, John Franklin, Norma Ann and Wanda May, of Center Junction; his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Petersen, of Monticello, one brother, Herman of Center Jct.; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Boner, of Anamosa; and Mrs. Effie VonSprecken of Onslow; one sister, Laura, preceded him in death. He also leaves a number of near relatives and a host of friends, as the crowded church and aisles testified. A short service was held at the home at 1 o'clock p.m. on Saturday also at 1:30 services were held from the Presbyterian church Rev. Alyea preached from the text, "Let not your heart be troubled". Music was rendered by a quartet composed of Lyle Thompson, Pauline Burmeister, Dorothy Dreibelbis and Gus Dreibelbis with Mrs. Stanton, pianist. Pallbearers were, Arthur Wilcox, Percy Donson, R.G. Mead, Fred Lewis, Ora Andrews and Grey Dreibelbis. Flowers were in great profusion and very beautiful, eloquent tokens of loving sympathy. The services at the grave were in charge of the American Legion of Wyoming. Martin Petersen was laid to rest in the Monticello cemetery.
